As a professional financial adviser dealing with other people’s finances on a daily basis,
I have reflected a lot on the nature of money and have often asked myself the question ‘Why does money matter?’
Money in itself is not important; it is after all just paper and metal. If I gave you a handful of bits of paper, copper, nickel or brass I think you would be pretty unimpressed but put a recognisable mark on it and it becomes valuable. Why?
The answer is that money is worth something because it is a recognised means of exchange. You can get things for it and therefor it has value. On the most basic level, money allows you to acquire the essentials in life: a roof over your head, food on your table and access to healthcare. Once those necessities are covered, the most important thing that money can give you is financial security – both for yourself and your family.
Financial security represents the difference between merely existing and leading a fulfilling life: it gives us the luxury of choice and the freedom to do the things in life that we want to do.
We are all different and our priorities in life depend on many factors including our family situation, our aspirations and our desires. You may covert a dream property, an early retirement, a university education for your children, to run your own business, luxury holidays, and a yacht... the list is endless. Whatever it is you want to achieve with your money you need to look after it. That’s where this blog comes in. I will be exploring all the issues concerning money and personal finance. I will be writing about how you can ensure you get the most out of your hard-earned cash and how to grow your wealth to achieve financial independence and security because this will give you the platform to get what you want in life.
And of course, having financial security brings with it the responsibility of safeguarding it and protecting what you have managed to acquire with it. The key to this protection is insurance. Wealth, health and family can all be protected by putting in place relevant insurance cover and this is another area which I will cover comprehensively on the blog.
Money matters because it is the key to unlocking your dreams and aspirations. I hope you will join me on the journey to explore all the various aspects of personal finance thorough the pages of my blog
