Why work in financial services in Hong Kong

Hong Kong is best known for being one the worlds’ leading financial centres and a magnet for international business. The country’s high living standards, quality of life, and environment continually rank as the most attractive in Asia for foreign professionals. The territory is now home to around 7.2 million people, it is hard to imagine that today’s skyscraper filled streets were once low run buildings a few decades earlier. As one of the world’s fastest growing cities, the possibilities are infinite for this exponentially growing business hub.
When I first visited Hong Kong, I honestly had no idea what to expect besides a bustling city overcrowded by millions of people. However what I found was a city that assaults every sense and without a doubt Hong Kong is one of the world’s most amazing and vibrant cities. There is so much to see and do that it takes your breath away.
There is however a gentler paced side which you can only really get introduced to by people who live in Hong Kong. Luckily for me the team in our HK office are generous with their time and knowledge and they opened my eyes to beautiful beaches, hidden tropical islands, nature and tranquility. So while there is the five-star hotels, incredibly diverse restaurants, buzzing vibrant nightlife, grade A shopping there is also a softer side to Hong Kong that makes is a wonderful place to call home.
And many western expats have made their homes here and created life here. All throughout the city, expats will be able to find western restaurants and bars serving very familiar fare in case they have a craving taste of home. The MTR public railway links all of Hong Kong together, so any destination is only a few stops away; beaches, mountains, tourist sites, and residential areas. The convenience of being able to take a 30-minute metro ride to see a completely different side of Hong Kong is incredible, it almost doesn’t seem like the same city. From Hong Kong’s renowned concrete jungle, to Lantau Island’s famous Big Buddha, Hong Kong has an incredible variety of options to choose from.
While the city might be overwhelming for some, Hong Kong is one of the best places to raise a family. According to The Economist’s 2015 Safest Cities in the World Index, Hong Kong ranks 11th, proving that your children will have a safe upbringing. Healthcare in the city is set at an affordable price, private hospitals are accredited to UK standards and many doctors have received training from western universities. Additionally, there are prestigious international schools located throughout Hong Kong that ensure your children will get the highest education. Also, there is a Hong Kong Disneyland and Ocean Park for your children’s entertainment.
It is safe to say that there isn’t a lack of food options in Hong Kong, restaurant cuisines are from all over the world. Ranging from a kebab on the street to a three-star Michelin restaurant, Hong Kong offers a wide variety of choices at all costs. The streets of the city act as a melting pot of food from all around the globe.
Hong Kong’s International Airport is one of the world’s busiest passenger airports with worldwide direct connections which makes it convenient to travel home to see your friends and family.
