Time for a second opinion on your portfolio?

Scaremongering media headlines are doing nothing to calm the nerves of edgy investors right now. Stocks have suffered the worst start to a year ever in 2016 and if you have shares you have probably been watching their value yo-yo in horror with an underlying feeling of panic. If so, you’re certainly not alone – I have been contacted by many concerned clients.

Volatility such as that we are experiencing at present always causes a great deal of worry but often people don’t really know exactly what they are worried about because they are unsure about the funds they are invested in and the degree of risk they are exposed to. In reality, many have only a minimal amount invested in those sectors, such as China, which are currently causing problems and have little real cause for concern.

So should you be panicking or not? The only way to know for sure is to get to grips with exactly what investments you have in your portfolio in order to ascertain if you are exposed to risk, to what degree and with which of your investments. Once you know where your weaknesses lie, it is possible to adjust your asset allocation away from sectors which are struggling the most to less volatile ones. Gold has traditionally been a safe haven for investors in times of volatility and so it is proving at present with gold prices surging right now to their highest levels since the financial crisis.

If you are worried about your portfolio and whether it is compatible with your goals and tolerance to risk perhaps now is a good time to seek a second opinion. A review could turn up any number of issues from a badly constructed portfolio which doesn’t match your requirements to one that has failed to evolve over time in response to fluctuating market conditions or your own changing situation.

All these issues are solvable and I can help you work out where your Achilles heel is with a full and frank review of your financial situation. Once I have done that, we can work together to ensure that your portfolio is actively managed on an ongoing basis by professional investment managers who will oversee your investments and aim to outperform the market compared to specific benchmarks.

We work with the best managers in the business via our partnership with Tilney Bestinvest. They have the necessary experience, market knowledge and research data to be able to make informed decisions to reallocate the assets in your portfolio in reaction to what is happening in the markets and maintain an optimum balance on an ongoing basis. They have a history of consistently outperforming their benchmarks so although no investment is ever entirely risk-free, leaving your investments in the capable hands of TBI’s investment managers minimises the risk and protects your investments as much as possible.

To find out more, why not contact me for a free, no-obligation appointment to review your financial situation and see whether we can adjust your portfolio to protect your investments and get them working harder for you?
